The spring issue of Untold Magazine was themed “Fears”. The design was inspired by children’s horror medias such as Scooby Doo and Goosebumps as this is often where people are introduced to some of the more mainstream fears like monsters and scary dolls. The repetition of the illustrations was done to evoke fear as things are scarier in numbers.
I worked with contributors to come up with some visual ideas for their pieces before starting the design work. It was important to me that I represent their written work accurately with the imagery I chose. After reading through their pieces, I wrote down some imagery that stood out to me that could be fun to bring alive and then asked the contributors what kinds of things they were thinking about while writing their pieces.
